Before the past 6 (or so) years of my life I had never been so well acquainted with illness. Bleh! No one told me that to bring a new life into the world meant introducing viral symptoms unlike I’d ever known! If you are one of those fortunate people whose kids have never had a runny nose, let alone who has never had the enjoyable experience of watching your toddler have no control over when and where their vomit comes out while you lay lifeless and helpless on your sofa, then “YAY!”…but maybe this isn’t the post for you.
Maybe you are in the thick of this right now, as I was a couple years ago. If so, then this post IS for you! It was so amazing to me that something that seemed so trivial as a runny nose could stop a family’s plans dead in their tracks and force them into isolation. Dealing with the physical symptoms was one thing, but not knowing when the cycle of each separate virus passing through every member of our family would end, produced spiritual symptoms in us as well.
I realized at this point that physical well-being and spiritual well-being have a correlating relationship. Therefore, I needed a game plan for maintaining physical health and wellness for my family. This led to three vital changes in our family’s lifestyle, the first of which is nutritional supplementation. Read on.
1. Vitamins, vitamins, vitamins!
A decade ago when I was in nursing school I would have rolled my eyes over this one. During my course on nutrition, the professor said something that stuck with me for years. She said that so little of the content in multivitamins is absorbed into the body that what you’re really paying for is expensive urine. Haha! It’s possible that was more true then than it is now, but recently I threw that out the window and decided to research natural ways to supplement my family’s nutrition. Thankfully, our regimen has proven to be more than just flushing money down the toilet. Each of my “supplements” could (and may someday – so keep an eye out) have their own post, but for now I will offer a little blurb on how my family uses them to combat illness:
Ah-ah-ahh! Take a look at the title…”(Part 1).” Yep! This is #1 of a 2 part post on this topic. If you want to be “privey” to my secrets on staying well you’re gonna have to check back tomorrow. Trust me, you won’t wanna miss it!
