In my kitchen on the wall just above the wood stove I have a picture of my three beautiful children. They look so perfect in that picture with happy smiles and clean clothes.
My daughter, Kim was at our home in Massachusetts last month. She and I were discussing motherhood. We talked about how the moments of quiet come so infrequently. We talked about how sleep may be a distant memory at times when you are holding a sick child in your arms at 3 am. We talked about how hard it is sometimes to know the best thing to do for your child. The conversation continued about endless laundry and 3 meals a day and being a referee and non-stop motion and noise.
After all, in the life of children, there are forts to be built. There are shows to put on (that often require multiple props of various clothing and toys that make the show exciting and well, yes, make a mess to clean up). And, how is it that when mom is on the phone the children show up in multitudes surrounding your entire being?
We looked at the picture on the wall and I said to her, “before you know it you too will have a picture on your wall with 4 beautiful children.” I said, “and, when you look at that picture, all you will see are memories of fun and laughter. You may remember some of the struggles but with those struggles you will be reminded of how God carried you through and gave you the love, patience and answers you needed just at the right time. You will look at that picture and your heart will melt with love for the gifts God gave you. And, you will forget the battles, the missed sleep and the army that surrounded you giving you not a moment to yourself.
Thank you moms for all you do, all you give and for your unconditional love! We at behindourdoors are grateful to be a part of your lives and to share our day-to-day journey of life and motherhood with you all!
